This Privacy Policy explains how BirthX, doing business as BirthBot ("BirthBot", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects your information when you use the BirthBot text-message service and website at https://birthbot.org.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Information we collect
- Sign-up details: your first and last name, mobile phone number, how far along the pregnancy is (or the first day of the last menstrual period and cycle length), the due date we calculate from it, and later your baby's birth date if you tell us.
- Your preferences: the days, time and time zone you choose for messages.
- Messages: the texts you send us and the texts we send you, including your 0-10 ratings, your answers about whether a tip came at the right time, comments, questions you ask, and support requests.
- Consent records: when and how you agreed to receive texts, and opt-out requests.
- Subscription details: your subscription status and dates. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- Technical information: basic web server logs (such as IP address and browser type) when you visit our website.
How we use your information
- To send the pregnancy and new-baby tips you signed up for, on your chosen schedule, matched to your week.
- To answer your texts and questions, and to provide support.
- To improve the service - for example, using ratings and timing answers to learn which tips are most helpful and when to send them.
- To manage your subscription, including sending payment and cancellation notices.
- To keep records of your consent and opt-out requests, and to meet legal obligations.
Text messages (SMS)
By signing up you agree to receive recurring automated text messages from BirthBot at the number you provided. Message frequency depends on the schedule you choose. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to stop receiving messages at any time. Your SMS opt-in and phone number are used only to provide this service.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run BirthBot, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Twilio - to send and receive text messages.
- Stripe - to process subscription payments.
- Our hosting and database providers - to run our website and store data securely.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
How we protect your information
Your phone number, name, due date and the content of your messages are encrypted when stored. Access to conversation records is limited to authorized staff, requires two-step sign-in, and is logged. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
How long we keep it
We erase the text of messages after 365 days. We may keep ratings and other non-identifying information longer to improve the service. Your account details are kept while you use BirthBot, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
Your choices
- Change your schedule or details any time by texting MENU, or through your settings link (text SETTINGS).
- Stop messages any time by replying STOP.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@birthx.org.
Health information
BirthBot provides general education, not medical care, and is not a healthcare provider. Please don't send us information you don't want to share. If you have a medical emergency, call 911.
Children
BirthBot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make important changes, we will post the new version here and update the effective date.
